ECP Initiates Delimitation Objection Hearings and Addresses Key Cases

Share

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced the commencement of delimitation objection hearings on November 1. They have appointed two benches to manage the proceedings.

Simultaneously, the second bench will oversee objections pertaining to constituencies in Kurram, Attock, Jhelum, Nankana Sahib, Kohat, and Korangi districts. The first bench, operational from November 1, will address objections related to the delimitation of various districts, including Islamabad, Shikarpur, Khuzdar, Sialkot, and Rajanpur.

After the initial phase of delimitation, the ECP spokesperson has confirmed that the second phase will follow objections to the preliminary delimitations. The spokesperson assured that the ECP’s decisions are clear, and all necessary preparations for the elections have been completed.

On November 2, the ECP will continue the hearings, focusing on objections related to districts like Malir, Sanghar, Swat, Haripur, Chakwal, and Pashin, including discussions about districts such as Mardan, Karachi East, Musa Khel, Lodhran, and Hub. Notably, the ECP has received a total of 680 objections. Despite these proceedings, the upcoming polls will proceed as planned, with a schedule to be issued once the delimitation of constituencies is finalized.

In other announcements, the ECP will conduct hearings on two significant cases in the near future. The PTI prohibited funding case is scheduled for November 1, during which the electoral watchdog will examine evidence regarding the alleged foreign funding, which is prohibited by law. Furthermore, the ECP will address the matter of removing the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister from the caretaker cabinet on October 31.

To better serve the general public, the ECP has decided to keep all field offices open on Saturdays. This arrangement allows the public to address concerns related to vote registration, transfer, exclusion, and data accuracy during official working hours. The spokesperson for the electoral watchdog noted that the period for registration, transfer, exit, and data validation will remain open until October 28, with instructions provided to the four provincial election commissioners to assist the public in these matters.

The ECP will carefully consider all objections before finalizing the delimitation process, with an expected list publication by the end of next month.
