Chery-NextGen Unveils Jaecoo J6 Electric SUV in Pakistan, Targeting a Fast-Evolving EV Market

Share

In a major move that could reshape Pakistan’s electric vehicle landscape, Chery’s newly formed partnership with NextGen Auto—Hyundai Nishat’s EV-focused subsidiary—has rolled out its first model: the all-electric Jaecoo J6 SUV.

A New Chapter for Chery in Pakistan

This unveiling marks a pivotal moment for Chery International, which in early 2025 dissolved its long-standing relationship with Ghandhara Automotive to instead team up with NextGen Auto. The new alliance is focused on bringing Chery’s next-generation energy brands, Omoda and Jaecoo, into the local market—leveraging Pakistan’s increasing appetite for battery electric (BEV), plug-in hybrid (PHEV), and fuel cell (FCEV) vehicles.

The Jaecoo J6 is the first fruit of this partnership, and it arrives not just as another SUV—but as a direct challenge to the growing competition in the premium EV segment.

Performance: Three Variants, Three Experiences

The J6 is offered in three trims—two rear-wheel drive (RWD) and one all-wheel drive (AWD)—each aimed at a different kind of driver:

  • J6 RWD Comfort

  • Motor: 135 kW (184 hp), 220 Nm torque
  • Battery: 49.9 kWh
  • Range: 329.6 km (NEDC)
  • 0–100 km/h: 10.5 seconds
  • Price: Rs 8,799,000
  • J6 RWD Luxury

  • Same motor, but upgraded to a 65.6 kWh battery
  • Range: 462 km
  • Faster acceleration: 0–100 km/h in 8 seconds
  • Price: Rs 9,899,000
  • J6 AWD Premium (Phantom upgrade optional)

  • Dual motors: 205 kW (279 hp), 385 Nm torque
  • Battery: 69.7 kWh
  • Range: 418 km
  • 0–100 km/h: 6.5 seconds
  • Price: Rs 10,799,000

All variants support 6.6 kW AC and 80 kW DC fast charging, with rear-drive models offering a 450-liter boot for everyday practicality.

Feature-Packed Exterior with Smart Utility

Despite its compact footprint (4,406 mm in length), the J6 stands tall—both literally and figuratively. Matrix LED adaptive headlights, automatic high-beam assist, a panoramic sunroof, and roof rails combine function with flair. Convenience gets a boost from NFC keyless entry and a power-operated charging port cover, while thoughtful safety touches like a rear fog lamp and emergency stop signal are built in.

Inside: Executive Comfort Meets Everyday Practicality

Jaecoo didn’t cut corners inside the cabin. Drivers get a six-way power seat with memory and massage functions, while the front passenger enjoys their own set of electric luxuries, including leg support and seat ventilation. Rear passengers aren’t forgotten either—ventilated seats, a fold-down armrest, and ambient lighting round out a well-appointed interior.

Other interior highlights:

  • 64-color RGB ambient lighting
  • Dual-zone climate control with remote A/C start
  • 12-inch digital cluster + 6-inch infotainment screen
  • Wireless charging (50W) with device-forget alert
  • Available audio systems: Pioneer (8-speaker) or Infinity (12-speaker)

Safety Tech Rivals Premium Imports

The Jaecoo J6 comes equipped with a suite of safety features more common in luxury European brands. A 360° camera, autonomous emergency braking (AEB), adaptive cruise control (ACC), and traffic jam assist (TJA) headline a long list of advanced driver assistance systems.

Additional driver aids include:

  • Lane departure prevention
  • Blind spot monitoring
  • Rear cross-traffic alert
  • Fatigue detection and departure reminder
  • Emergency braking assist
  • Hill start and descent control

What’s at Stake?

The J6’s arrival signals more than a new model—it’s a test of whether Pakistan’s EV ecosystem is ready to absorb feature-rich, higher-priced electric SUVs at scale. With a top-tier variant priced above Rs 10 million, Chery and Nishat are clearly betting on a market that’s beginning to warm up to premium electric mobility.

Pakistan’s EV space is heating up, and the Jaecoo J6 might just be the benchmark that forces the competition to step up. Whether it becomes a regular sight on city streets or a niche choice for early adopters will depend not just on its specs—but on how well Chery-NextGen backs it with after-sales support and charging infrastructure.

Either way, the J6 isn’t just another EV launch—it’s a statement.
