The race to dominate Pakistan’s electric vehicle (EV) SUV space just got more intense. Chery, in collaboration with NextGen Auto (a Nishat Group venture), has rolled out its all-electric Omoda E5—one of the most competitively priced electric SUVs currently available in the country.
While premium electric SUVs have remained out of reach for most Pakistanis, the Omoda E5 aims to make sustainable mobility far more accessible—without skimping on features.
Compact Form, Striking Presence
With a footprint tailored for city life and highway runs alike, the Omoda E5 sits at 4,424 mm long and 1,830 mm wide, standing 1,588 mm tall on a 2,630 mm wheelbase. But despite these modest dimensions, the SUV doesn’t hold back on visual flair.
A full LED lighting suite—headlights, taillights, fog lamps, and sequential indicators—blends with sharp contours and dual roof spoilers for a modern, aggressive look. The 18-inch alloys, roof rails, and sunroof (complete with a retractable shade) lend a sporty and premium finish. Puddle lamps and rain-sensing wipers show Chery isn’t cutting corners on refinement.
Interior: Tech-Packed and Family-Ready
Inside, the E5 feels more like a lounge on wheels. A pair of 12.3-inch screens merge into one sleek display for driving data and infotainment, powered by a Sony 8-speaker audio system. Smartphone connectivity is seamless thanks to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while an intelligent voice assistant adds hands-free control.
The front seats are not just power-adjustable—driver and passenger also enjoy built-in ventilation. Rear passengers aren’t left behind, with AC vents, both USB-A and USB-C ports, and adjustable ambient lighting enhancing the ride. Practicality is built-in with a 60/40 split rear bench, armrests at both ends, and ample storage options.
Under the Hood: Quiet, Quick, and Capable
Don’t let the silence of electric power fool you—the Omoda E5 packs a punch. Its 150 kW (204 hp) electric motor delivers 340 Nm of torque to the front wheels, enabling brisk acceleration across three driving modes: Eco, Normal, and Sport.
The SUV houses a 61 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery, offering a range of up to 430 km on the WLTP cycle (or 505 km NEDC). Topping up is handled through a conveniently placed charge port integrated into the front grille.
Prioritizing Safety from All Angles
Safety is a cornerstone of the Omoda E5’s design. Six airbags and a full suite of active safety systems—ABS, EBD, BAS, ESP, and Multi-Collision Braking—are standard. Parents will appreciate the ISOFIX mounts and child lock mechanisms, while tech-focused drivers will benefit from a 360-degree camera system, front/rear sensors, and anti-theft features like proximity keys, immobilizer, and walk-away auto-lock.
Price Tag and Wait Time
At Rs. 8,990,000 (ex-showroom), the Omoda E5 sits well below many of its electric SUV rivals. Bookings require a deposit of Rs. 1,700,000, with deliveries expected to begin in approximately 2.5 months.
A Calculated Bet on Pakistan’s EV Future
The Omoda E5 doesn’t just offer value—it represents a strategic move by Chery and Nishat Group to grab early ground in Pakistan’s emerging EV ecosystem. With rising fuel prices and urban air pollution becoming urgent concerns, EVs like the E5 might soon move from niche to norm.
For Pakistani buyers looking to go electric without compromising on tech, comfort, or style, the Omoda E5 delivers a compelling alternative.
