The federal government has pushed back its highly anticipated Prime Minister’s Youth Laptop Scheme as devastating floods continue to disrupt life in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
The programme, which aims to hand out 100,000 laptops to university students across Pakistan, was set to launch in July 2025. Officials confirmed that the rollout will be delayed by at least two weeks as many universities remain closed and government resources are redirected toward flood relief efforts.
Rescheduling in the Works
A new distribution date will be shared soon, according to representatives of the Prime Minister Youth Programme (PMYP). Authorities say their priority is to ensure students in affected regions aren’t left behind and will receive their devices once conditions stabilise.
Floods Cause Widespread Disruption
The flooding has displaced thousands, damaged infrastructure, and created logistical hurdles for initiatives like the laptop scheme. The government hopes the programme—part of a broader push for digital literacy—will resume quickly once access to campuses and affected regions improves.
Students eligible for laptops are advised to keep an eye on official PMYP announcements for updates on when the scheme will restart.
