Former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi Calls for Government Decision

Former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, acknowledging the presence of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) as a significant player in national politics, expressed doubts about his ability to participate in the upcoming general elections in the current political landscape. After his appearance in an accountability court, Abbasi argued that NAB was initially established to influence political dynamics, emphasizing its role in holding politicians accountable.

Abbasi emphasized the need for unity among political parties to address the country’s numerous challenges, stressing that collaborative efforts are essential for positive outcomes. He also mentioned his resignation from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) post due to certain issues but expressed readiness to return if called upon by PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif, clarifying his non-involvement in party matters.

Abbasi criticized NAB’s practices of initiating cases based on strong-worded speeches by its chairman, even after their retirement, and highlighted the damaging effects of prolonged legal proceedings on individuals subjected to fake cases that result in lengthy incarcerations. He stressed that the government should address the issue of NAB, including his own case, which has remained unresolved for four years.

In response to a question, Abbasi pointed out the limited number of politicians who have faced punishment in court, suggesting that NAB’s actions have portrayed the country’s politicians as virtuous and righteous. He also expressed personal reservations about participating in elections under the current circumstances, despite recognizing the importance of political dialogue and meetings.

The accountability court judge heard the illegal recruitment reference against Abbasi, but the proceedings were adjourned until December 13.
