KP Govt Orders Salary Cuts to Boost Flood Relief Efforts

Share

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government will deduct salaries from public, semi-government, and private sector employees to raise funds for flood victims, following devastating monsoon rains that have battered several districts.

A notification from the provincial Finance Department confirms that officers in Grade 17 and above will forfeit two days of basic salary, while staff in Grades 1–16 will contribute one day’s pay. The deductions will take effect from August 2025 salaries.

The decision, approved by the provincial cabinet, comes as authorities scramble to deliver shelter, food, and medical assistance to families displaced by widespread flooding. Officials stressed that the funds will go directly toward relief and rehabilitation in hard-hit regions.

Floods Leave Trail of Destruction

Recent torrential rains and flash floods have devastated KP districts including Battagram, Bajaur, and Mansehra. Official figures put the death toll at 368, with at least 182 others injured. More than 1,300 homes and 100 schools have been damaged or destroyed, compounding the scale of the crisis.

The KP government’s plan adds to federal relief measures. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his cabinet have already pledged a full month’s salary to support victims, while the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) is coordinating medical teams, tents, and food supplies for affected communities.

A Push for Collective Action

Officials say the decision reflects an urgent need for pooled resources as the province races against time to restore infrastructure and provide safe shelter for thousands. With more rain forecast in coming weeks, the move signals a shift toward shared responsibility, aiming to speed up recovery for families left homeless.
