In parallel, senior Hamas officials, including Ismail Haniyeh and Khaled Meshaal, have arrived in Cairo for talks with Egypt’s General Intelligence Service. The White House has announced that Israel will initiate four-hour humanitarian pauses in northern Gaza to facilitate safe evacuations, humanitarian aid deliveries, and potentially hostage release. These pauses resulted from recent discussions between US and Israeli officials, including talks between US President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
White House national security spokesperson John Kirby confirmed that no military operations would take place during these pauses, which begin today, and the announcements would come three hours in advance. However, President Biden emphasized that there is currently “no possibility” of a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. The death toll in Gaza has tragically reached 10,569 people, including 4,324 children, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.
