Pakistan’s fast bowler, Shaheen Shah Afridi, has set a remarkable record as the fastest to reach 100 wickets in one-day internationals (ODIs). This historic achievement took place during a match against Bangladesh in the ICC Men’s World Cup 2023 held in Kolkata, India.
During this significant moment, Tanzid Hasan became Shaheen’s 100th victim when he was dismissed for LBW on the fifth delivery of Afridi’s first over against Bangladesh. Shaheen’s accomplishment surpasses that of Australia’s Mitchell Starc, who achieved this milestone in 52 matches, as Shaheen did it in just 51 matches.
In the realm of spinning bowling, Nepal’s Sandeep Lamichhane reached the same number of wickets in 42 matches, while Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan took 44 matches to attain this remarkable milestone. Furthermore, Shaheen Shah Afridi has now secured the title of being the fastest Pakistani bowler to reach 100 wickets, surpassing Saqlain Mushtaq’s previous record of 53 matches.
